Dr. Brooks has a unique blend of leadership experiences from three distinct sectors of the health care industry: nursing administration in a health care system, academic administration, and leadership positions in the for-profit arena, specifically in marketing communication agencies specializing in employment branding, communications, and employment marketing. 

Dr. Brooks earned a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Science in nursing administration from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Valparaiso University. Her doctoral studies resulted in the creation of Brooks's Quality of Nursing Work Life Survey. Her survey has been used in 25 countries from Iran to Thailand and has been translated into five languages.

Dr. Brooks is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She serves on the board of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing, serves as chair of the National Council for the College of Nursing at Valparaiso University, and is on the Advisory Board for the Forum for Shared Governance. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow Alumnus, 2012 Cohort.

Dr. Brooks has been published numerous times and is the creator of the Brooks' Quality of Nursing Work Life Survey(C).

Paul served as the chief human resources officer and system senior vice president of human resources at Presence Health from November 2011 to July 2014. As CHRO for Presence Health, he oversaw all HR strategies and operations at both the system and ministry levels related to labor relations, employee benefits and wellness, executive and staff employee level compensation, employee recruitment, retention and engagement, employee health, HRIS, and organizational development and education. He was staff to the Human Resources Committee of the Presence Health Board of Directors.

Paul joined Resurrection Health Care in 1996 and served in the roles of director, vice president and senior vice president of human resources until November of 2011, when Resurrection merged with Provena Health, becoming Presence Health. Previously, he worked at Rush University Medical Center where from 1985 to 1995 he served in a variety of HR management roles, including HR director, compensation and benefits director, and employment services director. He served on the boards of directors of Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Holy Family Medical Center, Presence Life Connections, the Arthur Merkle and Clara Knipprath Nursing Home, and the Nazarethville Home for Aging Seniors.

Paul serves on the North Park University School of Business and Non-Profit Management Advisory Board. He received his Master’s degree, graduating with High Honors as a Hotchkiss Scholar, from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, and his Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University.
