Erik Underwood was developing solar energy projects in Santiago, Chile when he decided to go back to school to get his MBA. Erik wanted to continue in his field while broadening his understanding of how global businesses grow and innovate.
He knew Chicago Booth would allow him to get hands-on experience across various industries. Starting his first quarter, Erik dove headfirst into new territory—solving energy issues in emerging markets like Eastern Africa and figuring out how to grow a business in the face of technology challenges. Booth presented one opportunity after another for Erik to expand his knowledge through coursework, case competitions, lab classes, and student groups. The experience pushed him beyond thinking about just the next promotion, to reevaluating where he could make the best contribution to the global energy landscape going forward.
