Moving Up The Ranks With A Booth MBA

Many of our Chicago Booth applicants may be wondering whether the purpose of an MBA degree is to change careers OR to accelerate one's career. The answer at Chicago Booth is both! Out of the participants of the 2011 Graduating Student Survey, 53% of the graduates changed employers and 66% were promoted while in the program.

Jamie Boothroyd, a 2012 alum, falls into the latter group. In fact, he was promoted multiple times while in the Evening MBA Program by his employer BP. As a Marketing and Economics major from Ohio University, Jamie started with BP as part of a rotational program within BP's United States Retail and Wholesale marketing business. He held various roles within operations, real estate, pricing, and supply chain prior to starting his MBA at Booth. With his concentrations in Economics, Entrepreneurship, General Management and Managerial & Organization Behavior, he has recently made the move into a Chief of Staff role, now working directly for the President of BP's largest Refining and Marketing Operating Unit. This role provides great insight into the higher level strategy and decision making.

While Jamie was a Booth student he was very involved in the Booth community. He was part of the Chicago Booth Energy Club and the Student Advisory Council. Jamie was and still is a part of the Admissions Committee. We are thankful for the time he spends interviewing prospective students and being a part of our Information Session events.

The Admissions Team is proud of Jamie and wishes him luck in his new role at BP and the new roles which will continue to come his way as he puts his Booth MBA to use!
