Virtually every day the Wall Street Journal features a story about a Private Equity Group (PEG). Yet, most entrepreneurs know little about them. Even fewer know how PEGs might help them achieve their dreams. Yes, many PEGs today offer opportunities for:
• Owners of businesses looking to grow their company
• Experienced executives who want to manage and build an enterprise
• Persons seeking a financial partner to help them buy a business
• Business owners who want to sell or recapitalize their company to take some of the money out
If you own a company or would like to run one, you should learn what private equity may offer. It may change your life!
Katie LeMasurier and Kevin Murdock will introduce you to the world of private equity, discussing such issues as:
• The different types of PEGs and what they are each looking for
• How to approach a PEG about your business, an opportunity or you
• What one might expect from a PEG as a funding partner
• What PEGs are looking for in executives seeking a company to run
Katie is Vice President of Pfingsten Partners, one of the established “mid-size” PEGs in Chicago. Over its 18 years, Pfingsten has acquired 17 platform companies and 37 add-ons. With $285 million in its most recent fund, Pfingsten can make acquisitions of platform companies in its targeted value range of $25 to $100 million and smaller add-on acquisitions.
Kevin Murdock is the founder and a principal of The Legacy Network, based in Chicago. Legacy Network focuses on small and mid-sized businesses, especially companies with a solid management team. Legacy seeks to build on the foundation established by the founder/owner, backing the current management team and helping that team to improve performance and sustain growth.
