Event Details

Dr. Anne Beall and her firm conduct strategic market research for Fortune 500 companies from a fascinating perspective. She focuses not only on what respondents say verbally but, sometimes more importantly, what people say non-verbally. Recent research indicates that non-verbal behavior may comprise two-thirds of total communication. Anne has an unusual sensitivity for people and has created a method for reading nonverbal behavior called PERCEIVE™ which can be used to read respondents when they are unable or unwilling to express their thoughts and feelings. Much can be learned from non-verbal communication. But, understanding non-verbal behavior is complex. Using a framework is the most useful way to read what people are thinking because a combination of behaviors tells a story. The PERCEIVE™ framework looks at several factors: Proximity, Expression, Relative Orientation, Contact, Eyes, Individual Gestures, Voice and Existence of Adaptors. Anne’s experience and research are detailed in her two recent books: Strategic Market Research: A Guide to Conducting Research that Drives Businesses and a handbook for understanding people’s gestures and body language, called Reading the Hidden Communications Around You: A Guide to Reading Body Language in the Workplace. Anne received her M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Psychology from Yale University. In her spare time, Anne is an amateur photographer and avid runner. Anne is President of Beall Research & Training (www.beallrt.com).
