Hear from Robert Z. Aliber, Chicago Booth professor emeritus, on his research into the international factors behind and similarities between financial crises.
Event Details
Those of us who have been students and adherents of Bob Aliber know that he has studied crashes in the global economy for many decades. There have been four waves of international financial crisis since the early 1980s. Common causes cited for the massive U.S. crisis were the packaging of risky sub-prime mortgages into securities, regulatory ineptitude and financial shenanigans in New York, including outrageous compensation in the banks. All U.S. centric views ignore the similarities among the meltdown of the banks in forty countries in the last thirty years.
What are these similarities? Are there other international factors that contributed to the crisis? Join the Chicago Booth Alumni Club, International Roundtable, and Finance Roundtable for a spirited presentation of Dr. Aliber's provocative research in preparation for his upcoming book on the topic.
