Event Details

Debora Spar never thought of herself as a feminist, was one of the first women professors at Harvard Business School, and currently serves as member of the Board of Directors at Goldman Sachs and President of Barnard College.

In her book Wonder Women: Sex, Power and the Quest for Perfection, Spar examines how women's lives have-and have not-changed over the past forty years.  Armed with reams of new research, she details how women struggled for power and instead got stuck in an endless quest for perfection. The challenges confronting women are more complex than ever, and they are challenges that come inherently and inevitably from being female.  In this wise, often funny, always human, and smartly conceived book, Spar asks: How far have women really come? Why do they still feel stuck? And what will it take to get true equality for good?

Both deeply personal and statistically rich, Wonder Women is Spar's story and the story of our culture.  It is cultural history at its best, and a road map for the future.

VIP Alumni & Friends Reception: $30/person; includes a copy of Spar's book, the lecture, and intimate wine and cheese reception with President Debora Spar.
