Gary Hamel and C.K. Pralahad made a very solid case 15 years ago on the role of competency. This month, our discussion will revisit their article, and consider it in light of the growing set of questions and imperatives of innovation.
Event Details
Strategy, by one definition, focuses on developing an organization's capabilities and capacity in relationship to achieving and furthering its competitive advantage. In this context, what role does the core competency of the organization play? How important is it to develop a core competency and should it be the criteria for evaluating and electing new business directions or acquisitions?
We will use the competency lens to examine some headline making companies we have discussed earlier in the year, eg. J.C. Penney as well as those mentioned by Austin Carr and Ram Charan, additional authors whose recent commentaries we included for review this month.
