Event Details

From 6-7pm, Dr. Mustafa Mohatarem '82, Chief Economist of General Motors, will speak to the group and take questions from the audience.  Afterwards, there will be a social/mixer at Granite City Brewery (located inside the Ren Cen).

Dr. Mohatarem will address:

  • Macro-economic changes worldwide, looking back in the last 5 years and looking forward the next 10.
  • Changes in global trade policies and potential "currency wars."
  • U.S. Federal Reserve policies and their interactions with other global parties such as Euro Central Bank. Additional focus on interest rates to include the long term impact of negative interest rates (e.g., Sweden, Switzerland, etc.)
  • U.S. economic insights within the automotive industry that have broader implications to other aspects of the U.S. economy (e.g., sub-prime lending within auto, autonomous vehicles' impact on insurance rates/policies, using auto sales to "signal" other parts of the economy, etc.)
