Lessons in Entrepreneurship with David Kalt: Music, Code & Finance
David Kalt has three passions: music, code and finance. Inspired by the music of Tom Petty's "Damn the Torpedos" album and the great record producers of the 1980s, David set out to pave a career in the music industry after graduating from the University of Michigan in 1989. However, after years of hard work as an engineer and producer, he witnessed technology disrupt the music industry as the digital medium began to displace the analog equipment in recording studios. At that point David decided to learn how to code. His newfound passion for code took him on a path that eventually led him to co-found the online brokerage optionsXpress, which as CEO he took public in 2005 and subsequently sold to Charles Schwab. However, his passion for music never waned, leading him to his currrent role as founder and CEO of Reverb.com. Whether you are interested in music, code, finance, or all of the above, we welcome you to join us for an entertaining discussion with David Kalt.

Founder & CEO, Reverb.com
Since launching Reverb.com in 2013, David has been working side-by-side with his growing team to make the online marketplace the best place for musicians to buy and sell new, used and vintage music gear. As the company's evangelist and product visionary, David has grown Reverb.com into the most popular music gear website in the world.
David started Reverb.com shortly after purchasing well-known musical instrument shop, Chicago Music Exchange, and growing frustrated with the process of buying and selling guitars online. Prior to that, he made a name for himself as co-founder and CEO of online broker optionsXpress, which he took public in 2005 before the company was sold to Charles Schwab, and as founder of ClientBASE, the first CRM solution for travel agents and tour group operators.
Prior to finding success as an entrepreneur, David began his career as a recording engineer/producer. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in computer science from DePaul University.
