Professor Linda Ginzel joins us for a session as part of her ongoing quest to reframe the conversation about leadership. Over the past decade she has developed a new framework, which she calls Leadership Capital. Referencing the late Booth economist and Nobel laureate, Gary Becker's work on Human Capital, Ginzel defines Leadership Capital as "the wisdom to decide when to manage and when to lead together with the courage and capacity to act on your choices." During this session, we will have the opportunity to refine our personal definition of leadership and explore the choice that we as executives face at any given decision point, to lead or to manage.

Professor Linda Ginzel (Speaker)
Professor Linda Ginzel has been a member of the Booth faculty since 1992 and specializes in negotiation skills, managerial psychology, and executive development. Professor Ginzel is focused on what she terms Leadership Capital: the wisdom, courage, and capacity to decide when to manage and when to lead. In 2000 President Clinton awarded her a President's Service Award, the nation's highest honor for volunteer service directed at solving critical social problems. She is also the two-time recipient of the James S. Kemper Jr. Grant in Business Ethics. She is frequently recognized for her teaching excellence and received the 2011 Faculty Excellence Award, the Inaugural Global Hillel Einhorn Teaching Award in 2013, and was named an Impact Professor by the class of 2014.
Professor Ginzel is also a member of the founding faculty advisory group of the Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership.
The Harry L. Davis Center for Leadership is a new initiative recently established to ensure continued growth in the areas of experience-based learning and leadership development at Chicago Booth.
The Davis Center serves as an incubator and proven ground for generating new insights and perspectives on leadership. The Center has a commitment to intellectual rigor that is the hallmark of Chicago Booth.
The Center's goal is to help current and aspiring leaders bring rigor and discipline to their approach to leadership and interpersonal dynamics the same way they do strategic problem solving and decision making.
The Center is committed to a "scientific approach" towards experimentation and rigorous means of evaluating new initiatives, seeking opportunities for collecting quantitative and qualitative data to support actionable conclusions to scale across leadership contexts.
