Mr. Qi Bin (Speaker)
Director General, China Securities Regulatory Commission
Mr Qi graduated from Department of Modern Applied Physics of Tsinghua University in 1991 and he stayed on to teach since then. In 1992, he went to study in U.S.A. and in 1995 got his Master's degree in biophysics and passed the qualification examination for doctorate in Rochester University. In 1997, he got his MBA degree from the Business School of Chicago University. After that, he had been engaged in finance in Wall Street, covering the core businesses, such as corporate financing and asset management for investment banks. In 1998, he joined Goldman Sachs Group and helped establish the Department of Asset Management for Large Clients. He also took on the responsibility for selecting the Pension Fund Manager (in charge of 12 billion dollars) and also in Investment Management. In April 2000, as a partner he joined a risk investment and hedge fund management company. In October 2000, he was invited back to China as an overseas expert by CSRC to make plans for the development of China's securities market and to formulate relevant regulations and policies. He was appointed as the Director General of CSRC Research Center in 2006.
