Dean Sunil Kumar (Speaker)
Dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Operations Management, Chicago Booth
Opening Remarks: An Update on Chicago Booth Past, Present and Future.
Sunil Kumar joined the Chicago Booth faculty on January 1, 2011, after spending 14 years on the faculty of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business where he also served as senior associate dean for academic affairs, overseeing the school's MBA program and leading faculty groups in marketing and organizational behavior.
Sunil Kumar's academic research includes performance evaluation and control of manufacturing systems, service operations, and communications networks. In particular, he studies systems affected by stochastic variability via mathematical models. He also studies application of optimization methods and control theory to managerial problems. Kumar has published dozens of scholarly research articles and has served as the editor of the Stochastic Models area of the journal Operations Research. He co-developed a widely used factory simulator for teaching operations management. The simulator, "Littlefield Technologies," has been used in classes at more than 50 business and engineering schools. He also served as an operations consultant to several companies.
Born in India, Kumar received a Master of Engineering degree in computer science and automation from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Mangalore University in Surathkal. He earned a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
David J. Neithercut (Speaker)
President & CEO, Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR)
David will give a presentation on Leading a Public Company and Navigating Rough Waters: personal comments and insights from high performance CEO.
David Neithercut, is the President and CEO (since 2006) of Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), an S&P 500 company with a public float of $17.4 billion as of June 30, 2011. David also sits on the company's distinguished Board of Trustees, which includes among others Sam Zell, Charles L. Atwood, former vice chair of Harrah's Entertainment, and Mary Kay Haben, former President-North America for the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. From 1995 until August 2004, he served as Equity Residential CFO and was responsible for all of the company's capital market activities. As CFO, he participated in debt and equity offerings, as well as merger and acquisition activity with a combined value in excess of $10 billion.
Prior to joining Equity Residential, Mr. Neithercut was SVP Finance for Equity Group Investments. Prior to joining Equity Group, he held positions with the Commercial Mortgage Banking division of Draper & Kramer, Inc. and the real estate department of Continental Bank, N.A.
Mr. Neithercut is a member of the Board of Directors of General Growth Properties (NYSE: GGP), a leading owner and operator of shopping malls, a member of the Executive Committee of the National Multi Housing Council, a member of the Urban Land Institute and a member of the Executive Committee of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. Mr. Neithercut holds a B.A. from St. Lawrence University and an M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
