Event Details

In December, 2017, Congress enacted the most far-reaching reform of the U.S. tax code since 1986. For Washington, the federal tax overhaul is complete, but companies around the world are just beginning to assess its implications for the future. How will this new tax bill change the environment of international business? At the event, Professor Dharmapala will take a closer look at the changes and discuss what we might learn from existing academic research about their potential consequences.

Topics include the following:

  • The transition to a territorial (or dividend-exemption) system of taxing multinational firms' foreign income
  • The one-time tax on deemed repatriations (foreign cash holdings of US multinationals)
  • The new "Global Intangible Low Taxed Income" (GILTI) tax
  • The new tax preference for "Foreign Derived Intangible Income" (FDII)
  • The new "Base erosion anti-abuse tax" (BEAT)

6:30 pm – 8:00 pm presentation
8:00 pm – 9:00 pm cash bar at The Midway Club
