Interest in corporate search systems has increased steadily as businesses deal with ever-greater volumes of data. The rise of the internet as a central repository of paid, unpaid, and “independent, objective” content has been fueled in part by the ease and increasing power of search mechanisms to locate and retrieve nformation on almost any topic with reasonable accuracy. Google’s control of over 72% of all searches on the Internet emanates from its algorithmic power and its index capacity for all types of media - irrespective of form and source. Its proprietary search algorithms and applications such as Google Maps and YouTube further its dominance.
Free search services are not necessarily as objective as we’d like to believe. They are increasingly being challenged by emerging trends in social networks, as well as evolutions in search technologies. The focus of our March discussion is a series of articles that provides insight into some of the new evolutions in web search and the transformation of the web from a static information source to an interactive to social platform.
Join us on March 19th to get a taste for what’s new in search, to explore a few of the numerous alternatives to Google, and to discuss how businesses should adapt, both from an internal planning perspective and from an external delivery engagement perspective. Which strategies matter?
Please read the following short articles, as background for the discussion:
