Event Details

More than 190 nations have agreed on a plan to limit climate change. The deal calls for wealthy economies such as the U.S. and the European Union to shoulder more of the burden, including a pledge to channel at least $100 billion a year to less wealthy countries to help them respond to climate change. Governments hope the deal will spur a tectonic shift in global economic development, pushing countries away from burning fossil fuels and toward a host of newer technologies, including solar panels, wind-power turbines, electric cars and more energy-efficient buildings. In the words of German Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks, "In the coming decades the world will have to say goodbye to coal, oil and gas."

How will these developments affect the Midwest and Illinois economies? Is the net effect on the Midwest positive or negative? Will opportunities for renewable energy development and clean tech exports offset the negative impacts?

Howard Learner is a nationally recognized leader and expert on the environment and climate change, and their impact on the Midwest. Plan to attend a provocative and lively discussion on changes in the energy sector.
