Speaker Profiles
Jonathan S. Sokobin, MBA '88 and PhD '93 (Speaker)
Chief Economist and Senior Vice President, FINRA
Jonathan S. Sokobin, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President, oversees FINRA's Office of the Chief Economist. In this role, he works closely with the Office of General Counsel and other departments in developing new rules, analyzes the regulatory impact, including costs and benefits, of existing and potential rulemakings, and gathers and analyzes data on securities firms and markets.
Previously, Mr. Sokobin was Acting Deputy Director, Research and Analysis in the Office of Financial Research at the U.S. Treasury Department. He joined the U.S Treasury Department in 2011 as Chief of Analytical Strategy in the Office of Financial Research.
Prior to joining the Treasury Department, Mr. Sokobin was Acting Director of the SEC's Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation. He joined the SEC staff in 2000 and held various positions, including Deputy Chief Economist and Director of the former Office of Risk Assessment. From 1998 to 2000, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the SEC.
Mr. Sokobin began his career as a member of the faculty of the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. He received his Ph.D. and MBA in finance from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, and his bachelor's degree from Ohio State University.
Todd Hazelkorn, PhD '03 (Speaker)
Vice President, Researcher and Portfolio Manager, AQR Capital Management
Todd Hazelkorn is a research and portfolio manager working on equity related strategies in AQR's Global Asset Allocation team. Prior to AQR, Todd was a portfolio manager and quantitative strategy research analyst at Tachyon Capital Management and head of the quantitative strategies group at Infinium Capital Management. He began his career at Citigroup. Todd earned a B.A. in mathematics and B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago.
Andrius Staisiunas, PhD '13 (Speaker)
Portfolio Manager, Millennium Management
Andrius Staisiunas is a portfolio manager at Millennium Management. He specializes in research and execution of quantitative intraday equity strategies. Prior to Millennium he had brief stints in junior roles at Lehman brothers and at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein. Andrius earned a B.A. in economics from Bates College and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago.
Jeffrey Meli, PhD '02 (Speaker)
Managing Director, Co-Head of Research, Barclays
Jeff Meli is the co-Head of Research within the Investment Bank at Barclays, and is based in New York.
Jeff joined Barclays in 2005, as Head of US Credit Strategy Research. He later became Head of Credit Research, playing a key role in the expansion of the firm's credit research franchise. He has taken on a number of other senior positions since then and was most recently co-Head of FICC Research. He has been instrumental in driving the monetization agenda and developing premier events within Macro and Credit Research, and has helped to grow the Product Management function.
Jeff has also recently spearheaded the firm's response to potential regulatory changes in Macro and Credit Research, representing the firm in conversations with regulators and as part of industry working groups.
Previously, he worked at Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan, with a focus on structured credit. Jeff has a PhD in Finance from the University of Chicago and an AB in Mathematics from Princeton.
Ingrid Tierens, MBA '95 and PhD '96 (Moderator)
Managing Director, Goldman Sachs
Ingrid heads the Equities Execution Services Strats Group, which advises clients on execution strategies across one delta equities. Prior to her current role, she headed Electronic Trading Strats for Goldman Sachs Execution & Clearing (GSEC) and the Sales Strats Group across Equity Derivatives and Global Securities Services. Ingrid joined Goldman Sachs in 2002 as a vice president in the Equity Derivatives Strats Group, focusing on quantitative equity and option-based strategies, portfolio construction and index-related analysis. She was named managing director in 2006.
Prior to joining the firm, Ingrid was a director in the active-quantitative investment product group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in London, where she was responsible for designing and implementing active-quantitative global equity investment processes. She also worked at J.P. Morgan Investment Management in London as a vice president in the quantitative financial research and development division, constructing international equity investment strategies.
Ingrid earned a PhD in Finance and an MBA from The University of Chicago. She is a CFA charterholder and a past president of the Society of Quantitative Analysts in New York.
