Alumni Career Services invites you to New York City's Career Month event, Start-up Success: Transforming an Idea into an Investment. Join us for a panel discussion featuring local tech industry entrepreneurs who will share their journeys and what it takes to stand out in the competitive tech and start-up industry. Panelists will discuss how to develop an idea into a successful venture as well as marketing, networking, financing, and branding.

Whether you're in the tech industry, looking to break into it, or simply interested in a field that is increasingly merging with other career paths, join us for this conversation followed by a networking reception.

Vinay Patel (Panelist)
Co-Founder, Bee

Vinay Patel is co-founder of Bee, a mobile bank for low and middle income Americans. Prior to Bee, Vinay spent 5 years as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, where he helped government clients at the federal, state, and local level solve their top technology problems and manage a range of major crises. During that time, Vinay also held Adjunct appointments at NYU Stern School of Business and Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, where he taught courses in Strategy, Data Visualization, and Game Theory. Vinay earned his B.A. in Economics and Statistics with honors from the University of Chicago, and his joint JD/MBA from New York University.

William Scheckel (Panelist)
Chief Marketing Officer, Oxford BioChronometrics SA

William Scheckel (AB'92) is Chief Marketing Officer of Oxford BioChronometrics SA as well as Director of the global private investment platform TreveriMarket. William specializes in B2B marketing, fundraising strategies, social networking and digital branding. Since 1992, William has contributed to the marketing efforts of many of the world's leading brands, including SAP where he served as chief-of-staff for global marketing, IBM, Shell and Deutsche Bank and has served as a marketing advisor to three heads of state. He has built over 100 enterprise websites designed to foster online communities and drive revenue. A graduate of University of Chicago (AB'92) and Universität Konstanz, William also teaches social media for business at the New York Institute of Technology.

Adrissha Wimberly (Speaker) '10

Adrissha Wimberly (MBA'10) has been committed to developing simple, life-improving, strategic technologies for the financial industry for over ten years. She was the forward-thinking authority for the award-winning financial transparency site, Checkbook NYC, where she led the product design and solution architecture. She also shaped Checkbook NYC's marketing including press conferences, major print, and social media impressions. Adrissha serves as Principle Lead to Special Projects and spearheads civic-engagement applications and polices, as well as, strategically manages the Comptroller's successful open-data projects. Prior to joining Comptroller Scott M. Stringer's staff, Adrissha worked as Deputy Comptroller for Public Affairs and Budget Special Assistant where she re-designed the Office's public-facing portal, launched crowd-sourcing website People's Budget NYC, and a Yelp-like app for City services NYC 311+. Previously, she founded a financial education technology startup. Adrissha received an MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she was a Dale Anne Reiss scholar, and a bachelor's in Chemistry with outstanding honor from Howard University.
