Four panelists with diverse expertise will make their forecast of the economy in 2008 during a dinner organized by the Chicago GSB Club of Washington, DC. The panel will be moderated by Chicago GSB alumna Karen Gibbs '78, former Senior Business Correspondent for Fox News Channel and Anchor at CNBC. Opening remarks and a presentation on the Singapore Economy will be provided by Singapore Ambassador, Chang Heng Chee. The event is being sponsored by the international law firm Crowell & Moring LLP

The Chicago GSB Club of Washington, DC is organizing a dinner on Wednesday March 19 featuring its annual panel of prognosticators with diverse areas of expertise to make their predictions for the 2008 U.S. and global economies. The panel will be moderated by Chicago GSB Alumna, Karen Gibbs ’78 -- former Co-host of Wall Street Week with Fortune, Senior Business Correspondent for the Fox News Channel and Anchor at CNBC. The opening remarks and a presentation on the Singapore economy will be delivered by the Ambassador of Singapore to the United States, Chang Heng Chee.

Cost

Karen Gibbs will be the Moderator for the Forecast. Her biography is as follows: Veteran Business Television Anchor and Correspondent, Karen Gibbs, is CEO of The Gibbs Perspective, a company concerned with and dedicated to the education and advocacy of the individual investor. A noted speaker and moderator, Gibbs most recently was co-anchor of the weekly PBS business program, Wall $treet Week with FORTUNE from 2002 to 2005. Prior to joining Wall $treet Week with FORTUNE, Gibbs spent five years as a senior business correspondent for FOX News Channel, contributing and serving as a substitute anchor on Your World With Neil Cavuto and Cavuto on Business where she was also a regular panelist. From 1992 to 1997, she was an anchor at CNBC, where she specialized in the credit and futures markets, and hosted such programs as Money Wheel and Minding Your Business. Prior to joining CNBC, Gibbs spent nearly ten years at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., where she was a Vice President and Senior Futures Strategist. She began her career at the Chicago Board of Trade as aboard marker and left as a member of the Office of Investigations and Audits. She received an MBA in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago.

Steven Clemons will speak about the impact of the election on the US economy. He is also a Senior Fellow at New America, and previously served as Executive Vice President. Publisher of the popular political blog The Washington Note, Mr. Clemons is a long-term policy practitioner and entrepreneur in Washington, D.C. He has served as Executive Vice President of the Economic Strategy Institute, Senior Policy Advisor on Economic and International Affairs to Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and was the first Executive Director of the Nixon Center. Edward Luttwak will address the impact of terrorism and the Middle East on the global economy in 2008. He is a CSIS senior associate and has served as a consultant to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, and a number of allied governments as well as international corporations and financial institutions. He is a frequent lecturer at universities and military colleges in the United States and abroad and has testified before several congressional committees and presidential commissions. Frederic V. Malek (Speaker)

Mr. Frederic V. Malek has had success in four careers encompassing corporate management, government, politics, and finance. As a corporate executive, Mr. Malek served as President of Marriott Hotels and later served as President and Co-CEO, and then Vice Chairman of Northwest Airlines. Mr. Malek later founded Thayer Lodging Group, and Thayer Capital Partners, where he served as Chairman since 1991 and 1993, respectively. Together these two firms have $4 billion of equity under management. In addition to his work in the private sector, Mr. Malek has had a distinguished career in public service. This culminated in 1992, when Mr. Malek served as Campaign Manager for President George H. W. Bush. Prior to 1992, he served President George H. W. Bush as Director of the 1988 Republican Convention and as Director of the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations, holding the rank of Ambassador. Mr. Malek also advised President Reagan as a member of the executive committee of the President's Council on Cost Control, as a member of the President's Commission on Private Sector Initiatives and as a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Earlier, Mr. Malek served as a Special Assistant to the President and as Deputy Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. Mr. Malek is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served in Vietnam. He received his M.B.A from Harvard Business School.
