When Ethan Casey's acclaimed book of narrative travel, Alive and Well in Pakistan, was published in 2004, it was praised as "magnificent" by Ahmed Rashid, "intelligent and compelling" by Mohsin Hamid, and "compulsory reading for anyone visiting Pakistan" by the Harvard International Review. But The Daily Telegraph's reviewer offered the most telling assessment: "The author's real journey is a search for common humanity."
Now Ethan Casey is preparing to republish Alive and Well in Pakistan, with a full chapter of updated material, in a special 10th-anniversary edition in late spring 2014. He plans to use the new edition to reach out even more assertively to mainstream America with the book's message of human experience and common humanity. At the Pakistan Club of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business on November 23, 2013, he will reflect on the seismic changes in Pakistan itself, and in its relationship with the United States, over the nearly two decades he has known the country. He will make particular reference to major events since his book's publication ten years ago, including the capture of Osama bin Laden, massive flooding during the monsoon seasons of 2010 and 2011, the Raymond Davis incident, and the controversial role of drone aircraft.

There is a University of Chicago parking structure located at 55th Street and Ellis Avenue that provides visitor parking for $4 per hour, for the first four hours, or $20 for the entire day. Visitors receive a time-coded ticket when they enter the garage and pay at a walk-up machine upon their return.

The Pakistan Club, now in its 9th year, started out as an alumni organization at Chicago Booth. Over the years, we have partnered with other divisions for our programming as well as activities. Now, we have members from all divisions of the University, including current students, alumni, and faculty. We have conducted Admissions sessions, high-profile presentations by senior corporate executives, policy makers, and academics (including one Nobel Laureate economist). We also hosted a highly successful investment conference about Pakistan and another one about the emerging opportunities in the Silk Road countries.
