Professor Epstein is widely regarded as one of the most influential and most productive legal scholars in the United States. He is the James Parker Hall Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Law and Senior Lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, a Senior Fellow of the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago Medical School, the inaugural Laurence A. Tisch Professor of Law at the New York University Law School, the Peter and Kirstin Bedford Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He acted as the interim dean of the University of Chicago Law School and Director of the John. M. Olin Center for Law and Economics at the University of Chicago Law School. He was editor of the Journal of Legal Studies from 1981 to 1991, and of the Journal of Law and Economics from 1991 to 2001. He has been writing a column for the Forbes magazine.
