Globalization has fueled the need for global trade management systems that give real-time visibility and control to just-in-time inventory systems and extended supply chains. Information technology has evolved from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems that manage far-flung operations of a single company to a shared online network in the 'cloud,' which connects global partners. The value proposition of cloud computing is that it provides importers and exporters a clear view of the end-to-end supply chain.
