Event Details

As we celebrate Asian America/Pacific Islander Heritage month in May, we will examine the rich and complex history of Asians in America. This series will help us understand the stereotypes and racism that Asian Americans face.

When you think of Asian Americans, you may not think of people from the Middle East or Indian subcontinent, but they are in fact Asian American! The experience of being Asian in America can differ greatly depending on where in Asia you are from. This event will explore the unique experiences of Americans from South Asia and the Middle East, as well as the ways Orientalism has shaped our stereotypes and biases towards these groups.

If you want to be an ally to the community but are wondering how, this event is for you. We will facilitate discussions reflecting on our individual actions and biases and graduate towards actions we can take to better support the AAPI community. This is especially important after the nearly 150% rise in hate crimes against Asians in America in the past year.

This event is open to current students and Booth alumni. We're looking forward to an insightful and meaningful conversation among Boothies on this important topic.
