Although the medical device industry provides its share of unique challenges, many of the tools and methodologies employed apply to any design/development endeavor undertaken.
This presentation will address opportunity assessments, problem evaluation and definition, function inputs and other design/development techniques. In addition to general principles, case studies will be discussed that trace the methods that were employed to break product paradigms and deliver successful products to market.

Chris Kaye is the Director of Technical Innovation at US Endoscopy, a privately-held company specializing in design and manufacturing of accessories that provide new, unique GI endoscopy device solutions. Chris holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering; a Masters of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Dayton; has completed numerous Graduate-level classes in Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Wright State University and has completed his Certificate of Technology Management from the California Institute of Technology. He has also taught classes on Polymers and Plastics Processing at Lakeland Community College and the Auburn Career Center and was also selected to Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the World. He is a member of Society of Plastics Engineers, Industrial Designers Society of America, ASM International and Society of Manufacturing Engineers, where he serves on the Innovation Watch Committee and is a participant in Stanford’s Innovation Masters program.
Chris has held various engineering and management positions over his 30 years of experience and his companies have served the Defense, Consumer Goods, and Automotive Industries prior to the last twelve years serving the Medical Industry. In his current position, he leads the development of new products from concept through product release driving creativity and innovation and has a number of patents pending. He also performs new technology assessments, and supports Core Manufacturing assisting with material selection, process improvements and cost reductions.
