Please join us for an intimate evening of friends and family as we honor the life, memory, and legacy of Janet Ortega '81. As most of you already know, Janet was a tireless ambassador of the University of Chicago and the Chicago Booth brand globally. She helped strengthen admissions, build corporate relationships, and encouraged alumni to give back to the community.
The evening will commence with remarks from Stacey Kole, Dean of MBA Programs and Clinical Professor of Economics; followed by a Fireside Chat with Roberto Castello Branco, CEO and President of Petrobas, and Joaquim Levy (PhD '93), president of BNDES and former Finance Minister for Brazil.
Hosts and founders of the Janet Ortega Memorial Scholarship fund are Thomas McDonald '08, Pedro Faria '02, and Ricardo Rittes '04. The reception will take place in the home of Ricardo Rittes. As parking is limited, the host suggests arrival by taxi or Uber, but for those driving, a valet service will be available for a small fee. In addition to the evening's programming, dinner and drinks will be provided.

Roberto Castello Branco (Speaker)
President and CEO of Petrobas
Roberto Castello Branco is the president and CEO of Petrobras. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics, with a doctorate from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV EPGE) and a postdoctoral degree from University of Chicago. He participated in executive training programs at Sloan School of Management (MIT) and International Institute for Management Development (IMD). He is affiliated professor at EPGE (FGV), also acting as director at Centro de Estudos em Crescimento e Desenvolvimento Econômico in this institution. He was a director at Vale S.A., Banco Central do Brasil, Banco Boavista, Banco Boavista Investimentos and Banco InterAtlântico. He was a member of Petrobras´ Board of Directors between May 2015 and April 2016, GRU Airport and Invepar, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of ABRASCA, Director of the American Chamber of Commerce (RJ) and a member of the Board of Directors of IBEF and Board of Curators of FGV. He was president of the Instituto Brasileiro de Relações com Investidores, executive president of IBMEC and vice president of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce.
Joaquim Levy (Speaker) '93
President of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES)
Joaquim Levy is an economist, Brazil's former Finance Minister, and the current President of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES). Mr. Levy has also served as Managing Director and CFO of the World Bank, where he was responsible for the financial and risk management strategies. Previously, Mr. Levy served as the Minister of Finance for the Federal Republic of Brazil. Levy took office on January 1, 2015, during the presidential inauguration of Dilma Rousseff's second term, working with the president and government in reforming the world's fifth largest economy.
From 2010 to 2014, Levy was CEO of Bradesco Asset Management, a division of Bradesco, Brazil's second-largest private bank, handling a portfolio of more than $130 billion. Prior to that Mr. Levy, as the Secretary of Finance of the State of Rio de Janeiro, successfully re-engineered financial management of the state, leading to its receiving an investment-grade credit rating from Standard & Poor's. Mr. Levy has held several positions with the Inter-American Development Bank, Brazil's National Treasury, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Levy holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago (1993); a master's in economics from Getúlio Vargas Foundation (1987); and a Bachelor's of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
