Event Details

Dear Friends of Stanford,

We are organising another Stanford Technology Outlook, bringing together thought leaders, experts and executives to share their perspectives on some of the most important technology trends and how they impact our lives, society and the economy.

For the 2019 edition, we will explore the impact of technology on health. We mobilised again a great line up of speakers providing multiple perspectives on "Smart Health"

From a medical research perspective, Professor Bart de Strooper and Diether Lambrechts will share the key medical challenges in the fields of Dementia and Oncology respectively. Bart de Strooper is a world-renowned Alzheimer researcher, Professor at KULeuven & University College London and Director of the UK-Dementia Research institute. Diether Lambrechts is a Belgian geneticist, professor at KU Leuven and Director of the Vesalius Research Center. He is known for his multidisciplinary approach to dissecting tumour biology.

From a technology perspective, Peter Peumans and Chris Van Hoof will describe how technology can support healthcare across the value chain from prevention, diagnostic to treatment and follow-up through the use of for example wearables, sensors, devices etc. Peter Peumans is Senior Vice President life science technologies at IMEC. Chris Van Hoof is a Senior Director Connected Health Solutions and IMEC Fellow.

From a business perspective, Nicolas Vergauwe will share his perspective on how to successfully translate technological opportunities into concrete business applications. Nicolas is CEO of miDiagnostics and the former VP innovation of Biocartis.

During the walking dinner, we will also take the opportunity to profile a few interesting start-ups in the field of Smart Health. Using booths, they will showcase their applications, devices and innovations. We confirmed already the following start-ups: FibriCheck, Byteflies, Bloomlife and miDiagnostics.

The Stanford Technology Outlook 2019 "Smart Health" will take place at the IMEC campus in Leuven. IMEC is a world-leading R&D and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies. As a pioneer in nanoelectronics, IMEC brings the power of chip technology to the world of healthcare.

This event is made possible thanks to the kind contributions of our sponsors IMEC and Bain & Company.
