Speaker Profiles

Chin-Tu Chen (Speaker)
Associate Professor of Radiology Committee on Medical Physics and the College, UChicago

Prof. Chin-Tu Chen's research interests, primarily in multi-modality molecular imaging, cover a broad spectrum of imaging-centered topics including imaging physics and instrumentation, image reconstruction and processing, imaging tracers and probes development, physiological modeling, quantitative and intelligent image analysis, as well as applications of molecular imaging methods in a wide spectrum of biological and medical investigations, especially in cancer, brain disorders, cardiopulmonary diseases, diabetes, and tissue injury and repair.

He and his colleagues pioneered the concept of multi-modality imaging, including image co-registration and integration, hybrid image instrumentation, image/information fusion in CT, MRI, PET and SPECT reconstruction, processing, and analysis, as well as functionalized targeting imaging probes and tracers with multiple diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

In recent years, he has been leading the UChicago's efforts in developing the Functional and Molecular Imaging Cores (including CT, PET, SPECT, ultrasound, optical imaging, etc.) and the Integrated Small Animal Imaging Research Resource (iSAIRR), as well as the Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Revitalization Initiatives. He has also been promoting the bridging and interfacing of technology and instrumentation developments in nuclear and high-energy physics with those in biomedical imaging and medical physics.

Dr. Chen serves as a scientific or technical advisor and business consultant to multiple biomedical engineering and device firms and has also been instrumental in setting up several startup companies in Asia and the U.S.A.
