80% of all healthcare data is unstructured. Deep Learning algorithms are being used to unlock hidden insights from patient related narratives, reports, and images. In this presentation we provide 3 case studies:
1. Improving health outcomes. Explores how we can detect biometric data from self reported profile pictures by using transfer learning.
2. Reducing information withdrawal. Explores using seq2seq neural network models to extract secondary incidental information from patient reports, which are not captured and communicated during physician reviews
3. Mitigating provider risk. Explores enhancing ICD-10 coding with multi-layer classifiers to better detect and diagnose patient reported symptoms.

Utku Pamuksuz (Speaker)
Data Science Researcher, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
Dr. Utku Pamuksuz is a data science researcher with expertise in artificial intelligence, business analytics, applied mathematics, data mining and machine learning. He has been teaching at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC-Gies College of Business) and McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. He has been an invited speaker in academic and professional seminars in Europe, Asia, and the U.S.A. in topics ranging from AI, deep learning, data mining to predictive analytics in the areas of Management, Finance, Strategy, and Quantitative Marketing. Dr. Pamuksuz has also built and maintained strong relationships with industry leader organizations during his studies including State Farm, Goldman Sachs, Grainger, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, and KPMG. He is also a machine learning and business analytics consultant of Gerson Lehrman Group. He has been awarded with Big Data Hacking Competition Awards in 2015 and 2016, and the UIUC Excellence in Teaching Award in all the classes he has taught since 2016. He also holds a M.Sc. in Computer Science from Northwestern University. Dr. Pamuksuz is co-founder of Inference Analytics, currently appointed as Sr. Data Scientist at W.W. Grainger and Lecturer of Data Analytics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
