Event Details

The Chicago Booth Alumni Club of Singapore is pleased to present an exclusive dinner with Roman Linert,'03 Managing Director of the APAC, Africa and Middle East office of Codorniu Raventos, the oldest and largest family-owned producer of Spanish wines; and Alejandro Garcia Lopez the Head Winemaker for Vina Pomal, the iconic winery from Rioja - Spain's most revered wine region. The dinner will feature a selection of their 90+ points Rioja wines in Don Quijote Restaurant in Singapore.

Viña Pomal Winery is the oldest bottler in Spain and an iconic wine. A wine faithful like few to the classic style of the authentic Rioja, the most reputed region in Spain. The excellent characteristics of the vineyard, the painstaking selection of the grapes and the elaborate process of ageing in American and French oak barrels give Viña Pomal that unique style that separates it from the rest of Rioja. Since its first appearance, in 1908, Viña Pomal has been able to adapt to the new times without losing sight of the original characteristics that gave it its recognition and prestige. A prestige built first and foremost around its renowned Viña Pomal Reserva, a benchmark and the expression of Rioja Alta and followed by its prima opra "Alto de La Caseta" and the single vineyard series "Vinos Singulares".

Speaker Profiles

Roman Linert,'03 (Speaker)
Managing Director APAC, Africa and Middle East, Codorniu Raventos

Roman brings broad experience from Beer, Spirits and Wine companies. Since graduating from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business he has worked for some of the leading global alcohol companies including Diageo and Pernod Ricard. He was based in various regions including London, New York, Jamaica, Shanghai and now in Singapore. In the last decade, he has been taking part in shaping of the alcohol industry in Asia. He started with the integration of Absolut Vodka in Asia after the brand was acquired from the Swedish government by Pernod Ricard. Next, he led the development and implementation of brand building strategy across Asia for the iconic Australian wine brand "Penfolds". Currently he is heading the Asia, Australia, Middle East and Africa region for the world's oldest wine company Codorniu Raventos. Roman's specialties are in strategic marketing, brand building across the Asia Pacific region and route-to-market.

Alejandro Lopez (Speaker)
Head Winemaker, Vina Pomal

Spanish born and bred, Alejandro's career has revolved around La Rioja. It was in this iconic wine region where he earned his winemaking degree and where he started to work as a winemaking consultant. After a spell in Italy, Chile and California dedicated to learning the most up-to-date techniques in winemaking he returned to Spain, to La Rioja, with the hope of leading this region to a new stage in winemaking. This eventually brought him to the midst of La Rioja, to Haro, joining the Vina Pomal brand and winery in 2010. In this iconic winery he implemented the latest developments in micro-vineyard-management, which is now spreading across the entire region as shown by the new single vineyard appellation. Indeed his remarkable work made him director of the Vina Pomal Winery in 2016. The developments he implemented lead to being awarded this competitive title. At Vina Pomal he studied each of the vineyards and selected those that were best for the traditional and forgotten grapes "Tempranillo Blanco", "Maturana Blanca", etc. And also those that could give exceptional grapes for his prima opra "Alto de la Caseta" a wine for the most exclusive wine cellars. The critical acclaim for his wines speaks for itself, although he will seldom mention it, showing his roots in La Rioja, a region known for the down-to-earth, dignified and unpresuming character of its people.
