Driving Directions:

The best way to get to the Apollo Theater is by subway--the A, B, C, D and 2,3 trains all stop at 125th street and are within two blocks of the theater. Also close by is Metro North Railroad, which stops at 125th Street. From there, you can walk or take a bus Westbound to 8th Avenue and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, which will leave you just a few steps from the theater. Event Details

The Apollo Theater has played a major role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues, and soul and launched the careers of mega stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, James Brown, and so many more. This tour takes you to every nook and cranny of the theater and ends onstage where you can touch the magical Tree of Hope, as so many performers have done before. This is a family friendly Booth event, open to alumni and their children 8 and over. While we have made a tentative reservation for 30 people, each tour can accommodate up to 100, so we can add on and you are welcome to invite Booth and non-Booth friends. Importantly, this is a venue that is not open to the public outside of group tours, which need to be arranged well in advance, so this is truly a special opportunity that you may not have again and won't want to miss. Please arrive a few minutes early and identify yourself as part of the Chicago Booth Alumni Club tour group. For those who are less familiar with the Apollo Theater and its legacy, please visit apollotheater.org. Finally, anyone who would like to stay in the area is invited for pay-as-you-go drinks and conversation at the almost-as-famous Red Rooster, which is just down the street.
