We are delighted to welcome Chicago Booth alumni, current and prospective students as well as the general public to this special event to learn more about Chicago Booth and the high-tech industry in Israel. We will be joined by two faculty members from Chicago Booth; Dennis W. Carlton, David McDaniel Keller Professor of Economics and Guy Rolnik, Clinical Associate Professor of Strategic Management.
Are you interested in learning more about Chicago Booth? Learn more about the Dennis W. and Jane B. Carlton Fellowship, an annual full tuition fellowship was established for students from Israel, particularly those who have served in the Israeli military. It includes a stipend, mentoring, and professional development from business leaders in the Chicago area, facilitated by the Jewish United Federation. Recipients of this fellowship are expected to return to reside in Israel within five years of graduation.

Dennis W. Carlton (Speaker)
David McDaniel Keller Professor of Economics, Chicago Booth
Dennis W. Carlton focuses his research on microeconomics, industrial organization, and antitrust. He has published more than 100 articles and two books, including one of the leading textbooks in industrial organization. He is also the coeditor of the Journal of Law and Economics and is on the editorial boards of Competition Policy International and the Journal of Competition Law and Economics. From 2006 to 2008, he served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Guy Rolnik (Speaker)
Clinical Associate Professor of Strategic Management, Chicago Booth
For the last 28 years, Guy Rolnik has lived and worked in the intersection of business, finance, regulation, politics and the media. First, as a financial journalist and editor, later as a business entrepreneur and founder of a media company and in the last decade as a policy entrepreneur - using media as a tool for driving structural reforms in the economy.

Benefiting from its extensive financial capabilities and powerful sponsorship, FIMI has led more than 85 transactions in Israel, with a total deal value of almost US$ 4.5 billion, and has realized its investments in more than 55 of its portfolio companies.
Established in 1996, Israel's leading buy-out team has executed Leveraged Buy-Out (LBO) and Management Buy-Out (MBO) transactions for some of the country's premier companies.
To date, FIMI Opportunity V ($825m) and FIMI 6 ($1.1B) are active, whereas the previous Funds have completed their respective terms, with an impressive IRR of approximately 30%.
Itay Gat (Speaker)
Senior VP Production Programs, Mobileye
Dr. Gat graduated from the esteemed Israeli military Talpiyot program and later served in the IDF research and development corps. Dr. Gat received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Computer Science of the Hebrew University, focusing on the analysis of cortical activity, and utilized tools from the domain of machine learning.
Prior to joining Mobileye, Dr. Gat worked at Comverse (NASDAQ:CMVT), as a researcher in the field of speech processing and at Compugen (NASDAQ:CGEN), where he led several basic research groups, especially in the computational medicine area.
Dr. Gat is married with three children, rides a bicycle to work every day, and is on Mobileye's basketball team.
Eugene Kandel, MBA'87, PhD'90 (Speaker)
CEO, Start-Up Nation Central
Prof. Kandel is the CEO of the Start-Up Nation Central, a non-profit dedicated to strengthening Israel's innovation ecosystem and connecting the world government, business and NGO leaders to the people and technologies in Israel that can help them solve their most pressing problems. He is also an Emil Spyer Professor of Economics and Finance at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Prof. Eugene Kandel holds a BA and an MA from the Hebrew University, and an MBA and a Ph.D. from Chicago Booth.
Prof. Kandel's primary area of academic expertise is Financial Markets and Financial Intermediaries. His research is published in the world leading Finance and Economics journals. Prof. Kandel was actively involved in the 1997 redesign of the Nasdaq trading rules. Prof. Kandel served as Editor and Associate Editor of several leading Finance journals.
Prof. Kandel is a member of the Center for the Study of Rationality at the Hebrew University, a Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy and Research in London, and a Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute. He is the founder of the Center for Financial Markets and Institutions, and of the MA program in Finance and Financial Economics, both at the Hebrew University.
Between 2009 and 2015 Prof. Kandel served as the Head of the National Economic Council in the Prime Minister's Office and the Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister, and played a central role in all the major decisions on economic policy. Prior to that he advised governments, corporations, financial institutions, and NGOs; served on the Israeli Antitrust Court; and chaired investment committees of pension and provident funds in Israel.
Avi Weiss, PhD'87 (Speaker)
Executive Director, Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel
Prof. Weiss is the executive director of the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Chicago. He has presided as a member of the senior faculty of Bar-Ilan University since 1988 and served as Chair of the Economics Department between 2005 and 2008. His area of expertise is Applied Economics and his research focuses on industrial organization, antitrust, labor economics, law and economics, and behavioral and experimental economics.
Weiss is the editor of The Economic Quarterly – the journal of the Israel Economic Association – and is an associate editor of Economic Inquiry.
In the public domain, Prof. Weiss served as Chief Economist and Deputy Director of the Israel
Antitrust Authority between 2003-2005; was a member of the Anti-Dumping Commission of the
Ministry of Industry and Trade between 1999-2003; served as a member of the Subcommittee on the Cost of Living and Competition of the Trajtenberg Commission on Social and Economic Change; and acted as a consulting member of the Bachar Intra-Agency Committee for Reform of the Financial Sector. Today he is a member of the Competition Task Force of Israel's Grand Strategy Forum. Prof. Weiss has been a research fellow at IZA (a labor market research center) in Germany since 2000.
Throughout his academic career, Weiss has published more than forty articles in refereed journals and professional books.
