The Economic Forecast Dinner is the major annual event of the Chicago Booth Alumni Club of Washington, DC. The Forecast Dinner, which is perennially sold out, assembles a moderated panel of some of the best economic minds to discuss and predict the state of the U.S. and global economies during the coming year. The dinner regularly ends with a lively Q&A session between the panelists and guests.

The Forecast Dinner assembles a panel of some of the best economic minds to discuss and predict the state of the U.S. and global economies during the coming year. Join us to hear what they have to say about housing, credit, unemployment, foreign trade, and emerging markets, and get your economic insights for 2010! The Forecast Dinner is perennially sold out, so please register as soon as possible to guarantee yourself a ticket and avoid being disappointed. After a two year hiatus, Robert Aliber, Professor Emeritus of International Economics and Finance returns as a panelist thanks to the generosity of a local alumnus who has agreed to cover his travel costs. As regular attendees may recall, Professor Aliber predicted the real estate bubble and much of its consequences. The other two confirmed panelists are Ambassador Chan Heng Chee of Singapore, one of the most influential diplomats in Washington, who will provide an international perspective and Alan Levenson, Chief Economist at T. Rowe Price. Former business correspondent, Karen Gibbs '78, will once again serve as the moderator. TFC Consulting, Inc has generously agreed to sponsor the pre-dinner networking reception.

Dr. Robert Aliber (Panelist)
Professor Emeritus of International Economics and Finance, Chicago Booth

Robert Z. Aliber is Professor Emeritus of International Economics and Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. From September 2004 until May 2005, he was a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center. Prior to being on the Chicago Booth faculty, Dr. Aliber was Director of the Center for Studies in International Finance; Senior Economic Advisor at the Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of State; a Staff Economist at the Committee for Economic Development, Washington, D.C.; and Staff Economist for the Commission on Money and Credit, New York, N.Y. Dr. Aliber’s research activities focus on international finance and the international financial system; macro international economics; asset valuation in the global context; exchange rate issues; the multinational firm; asset price bubbles; international money, capital markets and capital flows; international banking; and public policy issues. His publications include The Multinational Paradigm; Readings in International Business: A Decision Approach (Co-Editor); Money, Banking, and Economic Activity; Global Portfolios: Quantitative Strategies for Maximum Performance (Co-Editor); The Handbook of International Financial Management (Editor). Dr. Aliber has an A.B. in political economy from Williams College, an A.B. and A.M. in economics from Cambridge University, and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.

Her Excellency Chan Heng Chee (Panelist)
Ambassador of Singapore to the United States of America, Embassy of Singapore

Her Excellency Chan Heng Chee took up her appointment as Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States in 1996. Prior to her appointment, she was the Executive Director of the Singapore International Foundation (which created a Singapore version of the Peace Corps) and Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. She was also the Founding Director of the Institute of Policy Studies. She served as Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and was concurrently High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador to Mexico. Ambassador Chan has received a number of awards including Honorary Degrees of Doctors of Letters from the University of Newcastle (Australia) and the University of Buckingham (United Kingdom), the International Woman of the Year Award by the Organization of Chinese American Women in 1998, and Singapore’s inaugural “Women of the Year Award”. She has received several National Book Awards for her works of non-fiction. Ambassador Chan has served as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the International Council of the Asia Society. Ambassador Chan received from the Government of Singapore The Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1999 and the Meritorious Service Medal in 2005. Ambassador Chan was educated at the University of Singapore and Cornell University.

Alan Levenson (Panelist)
Vice President and Chief Economist, T. Rowe Price

Alan Levenson is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. As T. Rowe Price's chief economist, Alan's central role is to contribute to the formulation of investment strategy in the firm's Fixed Income Division. In this capacity, he develops outlooks for the U.S. economy, inflation, and Federal Reserve policy. The Economics Department supports investment, client support, and development activities throughout the firm and conveys its views in two publications, U.S. Economic Perspective and U.S. Economic Projections. Prior to joining T. Rowe Price in 1998, Alan was senior vice president and director of research at Aubrey G. Lanston & Co., Inc., in New York City. He received a B.A. in philosophy, with a minor concentration in economics, from Yale University and earned an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.

Karen Gibbs, '78 (Moderator)

Karen Gibbs is President and Founder of the The Gibbs Perspective, a company concerned with and dedicated to financial literacy, investor education and advocacy. She is also a veteran business television anchor and correspondent. A noted speaker and moderator, Ms. Gibbs most recently was co-anchor of the weekly PBS business program, Wall $treet Week with Fortune, from 2002 to 2005. Prior to joining Wall $treet Week with Fortune, she spent five years as a senior business correspondent for FOX News Channel, contributing to and serving as substitute anchor on Your World with Neil Cavuto and Cavuto on Business where she was also a regular panelist. From 1992 to 1997, Ms. Gibbs was an anchor at CNBC, where she specialized in the credit and futures markets, and hosted such programs as Money Wheel and Minding Your Business. Prior to joining CNBC, she spent nearly ten years at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., where she was a Vice President and Senior Futures Strategist. Ms. Gibbs began her career at the Chicago Board of Trade as a board marker and left as a member of the Office of Investigations and Audits. She received an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Chicago Booth.
