The University of Chicago Alumni Club of the UK invites you to a discussion entitled "On Leadership," hosted by the Southbank Centre. American conductor Marin Alsop and British author Susie Orbach join the lawyer Shami Chakrabarti to discuss the concept of leadership in political and cultural life, in light of their own achievements and Marin's relationship with Leonard Bernstein as mentor and friend. Marin Alsop became the first woman to lead a major American orchestra when she was appointed Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and is the Artistic Director of the current Bernstein Project at the Southbank Centre. Susie Orbach is a psychoanalyst and author who published "Fat Is a Feminist Issue" 30 years ago. Today she is one of the leading writers on cultural attitudes to the body and on gender issues. Shami Chakrabarti, CBE, is a barrister and director of the Human Rights pressure group Liberty. We hope you feel inspired to join a group of Chicago alumni to attend this event, followed by a drink at the Skylon Bar in the Royal Festival Hall to socialise and exchange our own thoughts.
