Mary K. Bush (Speaker) '71
President and Chairman, Bush International

Mary K. Bush has been President of Bush International since she founded the company in 1991 and has thirty-four years' experience in business, global financial institutions and government. The company advises on financing and business development strategies internationally. Ms. Bush is well-known in international financial circles for innovative financial and business strategies that have helped transform markets.

She has served three US Presidents -- as the US Government's representative on the IMF Board, head of the Federal Home Loan Bank System and board member of Sally Mae. President Bush has recently appointed her to The HELP Commission whose goal is to improve the effectiveness of US financial flows to other nations. Ms. Bush created and was head of the International Finance Department at Fannie Mae. Here, she led the creation of ground-breaking mortgage-backed securities financings. Using financial innovation and her extensive network of global relationships, she helped Fannie Mae develop a strong presence in global capital markets. At the IMF, she led the reform to incorporate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in IMF accounting for past due loans. She also spearheaded the creation of the Structural Adjustment Facility that has channeled several billion dollars from the IMF and World Bank to countries that enact free market, business-friendly reforms.

Ms. Bush serves on the boards of Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (Chairman, Audit Committee), Briggs and Stratton, Brady Corporation and The Pioneer Family of Mutual Funds (Chairman, Policy Administration Committee). She is a former board member of Texaco and NationsBank Trust Company.

She has a B.A. in Economics, Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude from Fisk University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. She is a frequent speaker on financial market and governance matters.
