In the aftermath of the G-20 economic summit in March, fiscal stimulus and financial regulations have emerged among the long list of priorities for dealing with the international financial crisis that began with souring U.S. subprime loans and spawned a shutdown in global credit and a decline in trade. What makes an international crisis like this one different, and how will the international community respond? Professor Neiman will discuss the run up to the crisis, assess differences in countries' approaches for dealing with the crisis, consider proposed changes to the new international regulatory regime, and analyze trends in protectionist sentiment and international trade.
