Advancing nonprofit mission with Booth expertise

BANC is thrilled to celebrate our 5th anniversary! In honor of the occasion, this newsletter reflects on our beginning, checking in with the nonprofit leaders and BANC consultants from our first two “pilot” projects: Cara Chicago and the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC). The successful outcomes and learnings from these two projects encouraged us to offer four projects the following fall — and led to the foundation for today’s organization.

As we look forward to our next 5 years, we need your feedback to help assess the level of interest and opportunities to continue to grow and enhance BANC. Everybody's input is important to us - even if you have not yet participated in a project. Take the survey now.

As reflected in the Cara and WBDC stories, our nonprofit clients tell us that a hallmark of BANC is our success at matching the needs of the client’s project with the right alumni skills and passion for the mission. BANC clients benefit from our outside and diverse perspectives that they would not be able to otherwise afford. Likewise, our alumni consultants consistently point to a strong connection with the client organization, mission, and team, which they find deeply satisfying and personally rewarding.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Cara, the WBDC, and all the nonprofit clients we have served over the last five years for placing their trust in our BANC community. To our alumni consultants who dedicated many hours of their free time toward making a lasting impact on our client organizations, we thank you for your dedication and passion. Many thanks to our wonderful and talented steering committee members for their countless contributions to the growth of the organization. Finally, BANC would not be possible without the support of Booth Alumni Relations and the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation. Thank you for believing in our mission.

We look forward to the next five years as we continue to support meaningful social impact through pro bono consulting.

Five years in, we check in our first two projects and learn how BANC's process and recommendations supported growth at two highly respected Chicago nonprofits.

Five years ago, Cara was dealing with fragmented financial systems that would eventually need to move to a new platform. By being forward-looking with the BANC opportunity and the resources they had at the time, they were able to streamline a complicated process and ultimately help build a foundation that today strengthens and supports Cara's ability to deliver on its mission. Learn more about how Cara took a chance on BANC to invest in its future >>

Founded in 1986, the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC) is a nationally recognized leader accelerating development of women-owned businesses and strengthening women's participation and impact on the economy. By 2015, the WBDC had grown to serve a wider spectrum of companies across industries, size, and scale. BANC consultants were tasked to assess how well WBDC was meeting the needs of their evolving client base and identify opportunities to enhance and improve WBDC's programs. Learn more about how BANC's success in addressing this need led the WBDC to seek out BANC for a second project >>

As part of our anniversary celebration, we are excited to feature two consultants who have been with us from the beginning: Leah Pittacora, '01 and Sujatha Shenoy, '04.

5-Year Anniversary Celebration
While we originally planned on a fall gala to celebrate five years of BANC, 2020 did not cooperate. Stay tuned for details on an in-person event when we can all safely meet again!
