Sonny Garg is the Global Energy Solutions Lead at Uptake, the advanced analytics and actionable insights platform improving reliability, productivity, safety, and security for major industries.
Prior to Uptake, Garg spent 13 years at Exelon Corporation in a variety of senior executive positions. As chief information and innovation officer (CIIO), Garg led the development and execution of an industry-leading innovation strategy for Exelon’s $1 billion IT department. Energy Central and the Executives’ Club of Chicago named Garg CIO of the year in 2014, and Security Magazine ranked Exelon’s security department the best in the energy industry in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Garg began his career in the public and nonprofit sectors, serving as an assistant to Chicago mayor Richard Daley and as an appointed White House Fellow under President Clinton.
Garg is a Henry Crown Leadership Fellow at the Aspen Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He serves as a lecturer at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and sits on the boards of MB Financial Inc. and RKNeal. He also serves on a number of nonprofit boards including, Project&, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, the Invisible Institute, and the Advisory Council of the Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation at Chicago Booth.
Sonny holds an AB and an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a MPP from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
