Daniel Smaller, ’82
Daniel Smaller is a veteran investor and banker in emerging and frontier markets with 20 years of experience in trading and sales in Bahrain, Dubai, Zurich, London, Singapore, Sydney, and Hong Kong, followed by 15 years on the buy side. Leading sales and marketing teams for Citibank, Lehman, UBS, and Deutsche Bank (DB), he focused on emerging markets and introduced investors to markets from Pakistan to Peru and Croatia to Egypt. He initiated DB asset management in MENA and later established Algebra Capital, the region’s first independent asset management firm. Later, he headed global partnerships at Homestrings, an EM crowdfunding firm focusing on diaspora investing back home. Smaller currently sits on the Board of Lakson Investments, Pakistan’s largest independent asset management firm, as well as other boards in the media, edtech, healthcare, and fintech spaces. He is a graduate of American University in Washington, DC, and earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
