The keynote address will be delivered by Neil Fligstein, the Class of 1939 Chancellor's Professor in the Sociology Department at the University of California, Berkeley. He has published extensively on topics in economic sociology, organizational sociology, political sociology, and the law.
Fligstein's general interests include how governments and law interact with economic actors to produce modern market structures. Mr. Fligstein is the author of a number of books including "The Architecture of Markets" (2001, Princeton University Press) and the forthcoming "Euroclash: The EU, European Identity and the Future of Europe" (Oxford University Press). His newest project is a book manuscript co-authored with Doug McAdam tentatively titled "A Political Cultural Approach to the Problem of Strategic Action." This project is an attempt to theorize the links between a sociological model of action based in symbolic interaction with a structural theory of fields.
