Keynote Speaker: Lindsay Avner, Founder and Executive Director of Bright Pink
Lindsay founded Bright Pink in January of 2007. Bright Pink is the only national nonprofit organization with an exclusive focus on the prevention and early-detection of breast and ovarian cancer in high-risk young women. The organization offers seven educational and support initiatives to its more than 10,000 members and supporters nationwide. Lindsay currently resides in Chicago, IL and serves as the co-chair of the Young Women’s National Advisory Council for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the global leader of the breast cancer movement. Lindsay’s story has been profiled in such media outlets as the Chicago Tribune, Cosmopolitan, Shape, Women’s Health, Chicago Magazine, The Today Show, and CNN.

Researcher and trainer Anne Beall will teach us the basics of reading others and show us how to interpret the many elements of communication that are often overlooked in professional interactions. She will also talk about the differences between female and male nonverbal communication, including the strengths and pitfalls of each. Learn to evaluate and modify your own body language to become more effective and persuasive in your interactions with prospective employers, clients and colleagues.
Anne E. Beall, Ph.D. is President of Beall Research & Training, a firm that specializes in training people to read and use nonverbal communications more effectively. Anne received her M.S., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Social Psychology from Yale University. In her spare time, she is an amateur photographer and avid runner.
Please join GWB for a fun and beautiful day of running/ walking as we raise funds to support Y-ME's programs and services that are offered free of charge to anyone touched by breast cancer. Currently, 2 million Americans are living with breast cancer, and more than 180,000 will be diagnosed this year alone. GWB has joined Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization in its effort to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone. In 2006, forty-eight GSB Gals team members participated in the race and the team raised $4302. We believe that we can do better in 2008! GWB has set a goal of raising $5000 this year. Please help us achieve our goal and jointhe team. We won't be able to do it without your participation and support.

This Speed Mentoring event is a joint effort with the University of Chicago Women's Business Group (UCWBG). It provides GWB members a unique opportunity to network with leaders in the business community and learning from their experiences. Participants will attend a variety of "table talks," each chaired by an experienced Mentor. Three rounds of table talks, giving everyone the chance to meet more than one mentor over the evening. Come join the Graduate Women in Business (GWB) & Student Advisory Council (SAC) for a fun night of wine tasting at the popular Webster's Wine Bar. This GWB signature event, cosponsored by SAC, is open to the entire GSB community. The event is a fun opportunity to network with fellow students while learning about and sampling various wines. Tickets include a wine seminar, appetizers, and, of course, some excellent wine. Non-alcoholic drinks will also be available.
The UCWBG in partnership with Hewitt Associates, Harris Bank and Lee Hecht Harrison is hosting its second annual Women's Summit, Creating a Shared Vision and is pleased to announce that Cherie Booth, QC will be the keynote speaker. Cherie Booth is a trailblazer in her professional life and a dedicated wife and mother in her private life. After studying Law at the London School of Economics (LSE), Cherie Booth was at the top of her class in her Bar examinations and was called to the Bar in 1976. She was the first (and still the only) person to earn an LSE law degree with a first class in all her subjects. She married Tony Blair in 1980 and in 1995 she became a Queen's Counsel, which is a title held by only 10 percent of English lawyers. Currently, she specializes in Public, Employment and European Community Law at Matrix Chambers law group in London.
The inaugural Spring Luncheon provided an opportunity for women in the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA Programs to network with other students, faculty, and staff at the GSB. Keynote speaker Libby Andrews, '94 shared her experiences as an entrepreneur. Her handbag business in Chicago, Libby's Luxuries, has grown in less than two years to do $250,000 in sales in 2005 (https://URL=http://www.libbysluxe.com ).
More than 50 students, friends, and partners kicked off Spring by enjoying a wine seminar, open bar and appetizers at the Webster Wine Bar.
GWB and the Chicago Running Group partner for a beautiful day of running and supporting a great cause! 48 team members participated and the team raised $4,302 including money collected from current students, alumni and the Evening/Weekend office.
The event included a women’s dinner at the Gleacher Center featuring Christie Hefner, President and CEO of Playboy, and one of C200’s founding members. On Friday, May 5th Claire Babrowski, President, Chief Operating Officer, and Acting CEO of Radio Shack opened the morning with remarks at the Charles M. Harper Center after which the members of C200 offered concurrent panel discussions and small group conversations for MBA students. C200 is an organization serving women executives in areas of business synergies, leadership advancement, education, mentoring, and recognition. In addition, C200 seeks to improve opportunities for women business leaders.
