Barry was an international journalist with The Economist from 1994 tomid-2007, including postings in London, Tokyo, Southeast Asia, and the United States.

He has served as CEO of Tupperware Corporation, Premark International Inc., and Mead Corporation, and co-CEO of Triangle Corporation. He also has been COO of Dart & Kraft and Dart Industries, and he has extensive experience in leveraged buyouts, initial public offerings, defending hostile takeover attempts, proxy fights, spin-offs, board of directors issues, acquisitions and divestitures, and establishing new boards.

Birge’s research focuses on methods and models for optimal decision making under uncertainty, and the emphasis on relationships between operations and finance. In particular, he has developed methods for optimal asset and liability allocations over time, efficient periodic scheduling of workers and machines, productive power and energy distribution, and effective allocation of public services. In finance, his work centers on uses of low discrepancy sequences for option pricing, real options for capacity decisions, and asset/liability management. He is the author of two books and more than 70 refereed journal publications. Prior to joining Chicago Booth, Birge was dean and professor at Northwestern University’s Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science from 1999 to 2004.

Fogel’s main research is on early life indicators of work levels, disease, and mortality at middle and old age. In this capacity, he deals with projections of future health care and pension costs. For his contributions in this field, he was selected as the indispensable Person of the Year for 2006 by the Alliance for Aging Research. His recent work has focused on the economies of China, India, and other rapidly growing Asian nations. He is an expert on the impact of technology on economic growth, and also is a specialist on business ethics. He is the director of the Center for Population Economics, a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and a past president of the American Economic Association. He was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1993 for economic history. His most recent books are The Slavery Debates, 1952–1990: A Retrospective (Louisiana State University Press, 2003) and The Escape from Hunger and Premature Death, 1700–2100: Europe, America, and the Third World (Cambridge University Press, 2004). A forthcoming volume, The Changing Body: Health, Nutrition and Human Development in the Western World since 1700 (with Roderick Floud, Bernard Harris, and Sok Chul Hong), which will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2009.

Menon studies how national culture affects people’s everyday assumptions and their patterns of decision making. She also examines how managers respond to new knowledge, and particularly why they sometimes value ideas from insiders, competitors, and consultants differently.

Moskowitz researches empirical asset pricing, empirical corporate finance, investment anomalies, performance evaluation, behavioral finance, commercial and residential real estate, and private equity. He won the 2007 Fischer Black Prize for the best financial economist under the age of 40. He also is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Moskowitz spent the 2007-08 academic year working full-time at AQR Capital Management, a hedge fund in Greenwich, Connecticut, and remains an  advisor/consultant to AQR.

Murphy focuses his research on the empirical analysis of inequality, unemployment, and relative wages. He also studies the economics of growth and development. In 2005, Murphy was chosen as a MacArthur Fellow by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Murphy is the first professor at a business school to be chosen as a MacArthur Fellow in the 25 years that the awards have been given. He was awarded the John Bates Clark Medal in 1997 for his research on labor issues.

Ramanathan studies how consumers’ motivations and emotions change over time as a function of social factors and their own personality characteristics. In particular, his work focuses on issues related to self-control and socially consumed experiences such as watching movies or dining at restaurants. Topics of interest include effects of advertising, social networks, experientialmarketing, and problem behaviors such as overindulgence. Rossi works on methods for analysis of marketing decisions based on detailed databases. Rudnick’s experience is focused in entrepreneurship and health care. She also has served as a venture partner with Inroads Capital and as a consultant to health care businesses. Rudnick currently serves on the boards of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Health Management Systems (HMSY), the Patterson Companies, Evanston Northwestern Hospital Foundation, and First Midwest Bancorp. She served on the board of Oxford Health Plans until its merger with United Healthcare.

Thaler’s research lies in the gap between economics and psychology. He investigates the implications of relaxing the standard economics assumption that everyone in the economy is rational and selfish, instead entertaining the possibility that some of the agents in the economy are sometimes human. He is the author of The Winner’s Curse (Princeton University Press, 1994) and Quasi Rational Economics (Russell Sage Foundation Publications, 1994). He also is the editor of Advances in Behavioral Finance journal. Thaler is coauthor with Cass R. Urminsky studies consumer and managerial decisionmaking and its implications for marketing management. He teaches the marketing research course for MBA students, in which student teams partner with companies and organizations to conduct primary marketing research and consult on marketing strategy. Urminsky's past experience includes serving as a research director and corporate vice president at Young & Rubicam Advertising, where he investigated the links between consumer perceptions (in the largest worldwide study of brands) and subsequent financial performance. He has also worked as chief statistician and director at Penn, Schoen & Berland, conducting predictive modeling and primary market research for numerous Fortune 500 companies as well as political polling for prominent candidates and elected officials.
