Chicago GSB Professor Austan Goolsbee, Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics discusses how TiVo's commercial-skipping feature hurts advertisers and how advertising alternatives have an invasive backlash on consumers.

TiVo and Advertisers Face-off: Austan Goolsbee Comments on NPR

Economist Austan Goolsbee has seen the future of advertising in the age of TiVo and he is not happy. Goolsbee, speaking on National Public Radio, sees that zapping all those commercials has led advertisers to start playing hardball.

They are developing some creative ways to make it tough for consumers to block out their messages. Consumers can expect ads to appear in the most unlikely places. One example, Goolsbee offers, is that CBS will laser ads on eggs. Try ignoring that the next time you fix breakfast.

What else can consumers expect? Listen in to hear more about this troubling new trend and Goolsbee’s plea to TiVo users.
