Time magazine ran a special issue (May 8, 2006) naming its list of 100 people who shape our lives. Individuals named to the list were selected because their “power, talent or moral example” transformed the world we live in.
Steven Levitt, the Director of The Becker Center on Chicago Price Theory at the GSB, was named to the list of Scientists and Thinkers. Levitt was singled out for his ability to think outside the box (“way, way outside” said Time). Levitt has gained fame for taking a unique look at the intersection of economics and areas of human behavior that don’t normally appear to have anything in common. An example can be found in a recent New York Times column where Levitt and co-author Stephen Dubner explain the dearth of December-born soccer stars.
