The Chicago Tribune asked several MBA’s what they thought about their business schools and their degrees. Included were two GSB graduates—Ashish Kothair, 02, and Sol Kanthack,’00.
Kothari, principal in a consulting firm, commented that one of the things he got out of graduate school was a growing network of contacts. Numbering a few dozen when he started the GSB, he now counts more than 250 people in his circle of people he can call on in his career. According to the Tribune, the people he met were of an exceedingly high quality. One of his contacts actually helped him land a big client.
Kanthack, is a co-owner of brightroom, a firm that grew out of his experience at the GSB. The company was created as part of the annual New Venture Challenge, a business plan competition sponsored by the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at Chicago GSB. The second-place prize he won allowed Kanthack to start the company. According to the article, he especially appreciates classes that allow him, as an entrepreneur, to evaluate decisions from a profit and loss point of view.
“What will an MBA get you?” appeared September 18, 2005 in the Chicago Tribune.
