Chicago GSB Professor Kevin Murphy Receives 2005 MacArthur “Genius Grant”

Kevin M. Murphy, George J. Stigler Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business was one of 25 individuals named a MacArthur Fellow for 2005. He will receive $500,000 in “no strings attached” support over the next five years under terms of the award from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Murphy is the first professor at a business school to be chosen as a MacArthur Fellow in the 25 years that the awards have been given. He has published more than 60 research papers in scholarly journals and written two books that reveal, according to the MacArthur Foundation, “economic forces shaping vital social phenomena such as wage inequality, unemployment, addiction, medical research, and economic growth.”
