Associate Dean Julie Morton quoted on increased demand for MBA students

Businessworld, India ’s weekly business magazine, took a look at recent trends in MBA hiring. Noting the extremely dismal circumstances post 9/11, the article found job prospects are better and that it might be time to pursue an MBA.

Hiring freezes have lifted and companies are looking at gaps they need to fill. The improved job market is attested to by Julie Morton, GSB associate dean for MBA Career Services. Morton acknowledged that compared to last year, “recruiters scheduled 30 per cent more interviews” and that even interviews for internships “increased by 20%.”

The article also pointed out international students can take advantage of an interesting opportunity. An education from a U.S or European business school when combined with local knowledge makes a candidate extremely attractive to firms doing business in Asia and the Pacific.

Another factor, albeit short-term, that could make graduate school a smart option is the reduction in the number of people pursuing an MBA. Fewer MBAs can mean less competition for jobs.
