Partner, Barker Apartments
David Barker is a partner in Barker Apartments, which owns and manages 2,100 apartments, office and retail buildings, convenience stores, and self-storage facilities in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the University of Iowa and has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago, where he taught real estate investment to MBA students for 10 years, and urban economics for 4 years. He has published several articles in academic journals, continues to conduct research, and occasionally works as a consultant and expert witness.
Before joining the family apartment business, Mr. Barker was an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he conducted research on real estate and the banking industry.
Mr. Barker holds a B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. He lives in Iowa City with his wife and business partner, Sarah Richardson. They have two children, ages 12 and 15, who are learning the real estate business at the dinner table.
