Edward A. Snyder
Dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Economics, Chicago GSB
Edward A. Snyder is also the George Pratt Shultz Professor of Economics. As dean, he oversees the overall academic, financial, and administrative leadership of the school. As a scholar, he is interested mainly in industrial organization, antitrust economics, law and economics, and financial institutions.
Prior to coming to the GSB in 2001, Snyder served as dean and Charles C. Abbot Professor of Business Administration at the Darden School at the University of Virginia from 1998 to 2001. He also held positions at the University of Michigan and at the Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago. He also worked as an economist and a consultant for the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
In addition, Snyder is a member of the advisory board for the Energy & Industrial Group of Accenture Inc., the Civic Consulting Alliance, and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
His list of distinguished published works includes multiple publications in such journals as the Journal of Law and Economics, the Journal of Law, Economics & Organizations, "The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics and Law, Contemporary Policy Issues", and the Georgetown Law Journal. He has presented his findings to audiences, including at the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Trade Commission, and Harvard University Law School.
Snyder received a bachelor's degree in economics and government from Colby College in 1975, and a master's degree in public policy and a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1978 and 1984, respectively.
Edward A. Snyder will be a panelist on the Session A/B panel, CEO Perspectives on Goal Setting, at this year's Management Conference.
