Neal Cannon writes: “I wish I were compensated by the amount of words in my title. My employer, the Financial Relations Board, was purchased in 1999 by BSMG Worldwide, a unit of True North Communications. My seemingly never-ending title now reads: vice president and manager of strategic positioning and valuation, FRB; managing director, BSMG.” Cannon is also a director of the Chicago Challenge, a nonprofit charitable organization helping economically disadvantaged inner city children.

Randy Chandra (see Collin Anderson, ’96)

Brian W. Fultz writes: “On October 28, Amy and I welcomed our second child, Elizabeth ‘Elli’ Fultz, into the world. Big brother Adam, almost 3, isn’t quite sure what to think of the addition to our family just yet. The other news is that we moved to Tokyo in January [1999]. I’m in the process of starting up iXL’s presence in Japan and will be acting as general manager and representative director of the company. It’s funny how things come along sometimes when you’re not looking for them. That’s how this opportunity came along.”

James M. Hasik left Andersen Consulting to join Viant, an Internet consultancy, where he is helping to open the Atlanta office.

Soo J. Hong writes: “Jon Sidman, ’98, and I are engaged to be married. We are planning an October 2000 wedding in Los Angeles. We have moved to Connecticut and are enjoying life in the country. I’ve accepted a position as director of business development for NewSub Services Inc., the largest third-party magazine subscription agency in the world. I am responsible for launching and managing a new line of business and forging online and offline partnerships. Jon is busy running the Internet company that he started last spring, Whodini. Hopefully, the site will be up by the time you read this.” They welcome GSB visitors at www.whodini.com.

Y. F. Juan is currently program manager for the IBSS unit of Applied Materials. “In plain English, that means I am a product marketing manager with global responsibilities,” Juan said. “Also, I would like to report on Vikas Deolaiker, who is at Sun Microsystems. He always says, ‘Next time you update yourself at the GSB, mention my name and say something nice about me. Say something like Vikas is still in pursuit of that illusive million in a .com start-up.’ So there it is.”

Rizwan Kadir writes that he is director of research at AX.com, an Internet start-up currently focusing on online auction for the tax liens market. Gene J. Kovacs began a Ph.D. program at Columbia University in the fall. “I miss Chicago a lot, but who knows, maybe in a few years I will be a professor at the GSB. Wouldn’t that be ironic?” he writes. “I hope everyone from the class of ’97 is doing well.”

Tonya Sunday Kurtzman and Gary Kurtzman changed jobs and houses in September. Tonya moved from Providian Financial’s portfolio management group to the syndication group at Wells Fargo Capital Markets. Gary is now a relationship manager with Wells Fargo’s Mt. Diablo commercial banking office. Within a week of starting their new jobs, they moved into a new house in El Sobrante, California.

Brian Marcus writes: “Two big things happened in April. I got engaged to Abigail Karp and switched jobs. I’m now a project manager for the Cambridge Group in Chicago, with an emphasis on customer-focused marketing strategy.”

Candace Martinez Neuman and Jeff Neuman, ’98, were married October 9 in Englewood, New Jersey. Alumni in attendance included Amy Hamilton, ’98; Mike Murray, ’98; Fred deBure, ’98; Peter McNally, ’98; Mike Connor, ’98; Stokes Moore and Lucy Hovis Moore; Julie Ryan; Jay Rudman and Cindy Lester Rudman; Eve Glatt, ’98; and Daniela Berger, ’98. The couple now lives in Tenafly, New Jersey.

Andrew Nugent started Lake Forest Asset Management Corp. (www.lfamc.com), a retained executive search firm, in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Greg Peiker and Michelle Molenaar Peiker, ’98, had a son, Gordon Carswell Peiker, on October 29. The proud father reports that mother and son are doing well and notes, “For a bit of added excitement, October 29 is also the birthday of Gordon’s grandmother.”

Joe Popolo was promoted to vice president, finance, and treasurer of the Freeman Companies. He and his wife, Chris, and daughter, Kit, live in Dallas.

Kalpna Mehrotra Prakash was married in November 1998. She and her husband, Shailesh, now work in the Bay Area. Prakash is a pricing and planning manager for Sun’s Asia Pacific support services business. Her husband is an engineering manager working in e-commerce for the Sun-Netscape Alliance.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, his wife Nozomi, and son, Kotaro, welcomed a baby girl, Rie Jennifer Sakamoto, on October 17. The family lives in Scarsdale, New York.

Ken Thompson recently became engaged. He is a manager with Deloitte Consulting in Chicago.

David C. Ansani, A.B. ’87, M.B.A. ’98, has joined the business practice group at Chicago law firm Clausen Miller P.C. (www.clausen.com). He will concentrate on corporate law, banking law, commercial law, and real estate law. He can be reached at dansani@clausen.com.

Scott Conner and his wife, Sara, welcomed their daughter, Abigail Beach, on August 9. The bundle of joy weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 19 inches long. The family lives in Minneapolis, where Conner is director of business development for ADC Communications.

Mark Denholm left the Ernst & Young strategy group in September to focus on Internet strategy with USWeb/CKS in San Francisco. When he wrote this fall, he and his wife, Judi, were expecting their second son in late November. Their first son, Logan, who was born at University of Chicago, also was anxiously awaiting his brother’s arrival.

Rajneesh Gaur married Madhu Sarwal on October 15 in New York. The Gargoyle cohort made a big showing at the reception. Francisco Bayron, Andrea Level, Scott Kupchinsky and his girlfriend, Havona Madama, Fernando Vinzons, and Christy Whitney were all on hand to celebrate. Afterward, the newlyweds traveled to Aruba for a week. Gaur is currently a senior product marketing engineer with Intel in Santa Clara, California.

Drew George and his wife, Melissa, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Brinley Dorothea, on September 26. “Oh, and Drew’s happy with his job as well,” they write.

Amy Hamilton writes: “Over the last weekend in September, several alums came back to Chicago. To celebrate, I had a gathering at my house before we all went to a charity black tie. In attendance were Catey McCreary, in from San Francisco; Eunhee Choi, in from New York City; Hugh Scallon, ’99, also in from New York City; Annie Laugen, ’99, in from Charlotte, North Carolina; Mike Murray; Zann Goldblatt, ’97; Millard Prudhomme; Paul Kostolansky; Paul Kohlhepp; John Howell; Renee Berman; Sharon Burns; Jim Foster, ’96; John Greener, ’92; Dan Kinzler, ’92; Stephanie Degen, ’96; and Todd Shiher, ’96, among others.”

Caren Heller, M.D. ’89, M.B.A. ’98, president of Athena Healthcare Communications Inc., has entered e-commerce at www.modelsofcare.com. The site targets health care professionals. “I welcome feedback,” Heller writes.

Jay Kahn completed the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on October 23. He finished with a time of 10:30:11.

Richard Kollender is a management associate with SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals. He lives in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, with his wife and their infant daughter, Sarah.

Billy Levine married Julie Friedman on September 5 in Columbus, Ohio. Many GSB alumni attended, including Jon Herbst, Matt Ingber, Adam Stanislavsky, Aaron Peck, Scott and Stacy Thomson, Mike Connor, Melissa Newman, Eve Glatt, Vicki Friedman, Linda Okstein, Susan Wohlfort, Jason Foss, ’99, and Alla Royfman, ’99. “Everyone had a great time!” Levine writes. “We love Atlanta, where I’m in investment banking with Robinson-Humphrey and Julie is in public relations with Turner Network Television (TNT).”

Jossy Analys Matute and Juan Ramón López announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl, Nicole Analys. She was born in the Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, on June 30, weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 203/4 inches long. “Our closest friends from the business school have come to meet Nicole: Fred deBure, Zina Starosta, Jonathan Egol, José Maria Aldeanueva, Tom Chin, Suzanne Liu, Peter McNally, Daniela Berger, Ellen Kwon, Albert Hwang, Nan Li, and Yoshi Yanagiba.

Kathy Morrissey launched ChicagoGigs.com, a Chicago music Web site, in September. “Our traffic levels are rapidly and steadily increasing,” she writes, “and we’re continually partnering with other music-related businesses to promote the local music scene. We boast the best show listings database in the area!”

Nima Parikh reports that she changed jobs, moving from Nestle in Los Angeles to Clairol in Stamford, Connecticut. “I’d love to get in touch with some East Coast alums,” she writes.

Angela Ryker was recently sworn into the Illinois bar and is currently working in the Chicago office of McKinsey and Company.

Jon Sidman (see Soo J. Hong, ’97)

Martin Stever was promoted to manager, strategy and planning department, MSN sales, at Microsoft. He now manages a staff of 14 responsible for planning all advertising products and sales strategies for MSN, the Microsoft Network. Stever says he is “a true believer in the Web lifestyle” and now drives to work in a Rolls-Royce he bought on eBay. His wife, Dianne, is also working on the Web as a senior financial analyst at Amazon.com.

Dylan Taylor moved to Switzerland after graduation, where he works as a key account manager for an electronics firm. “I would love to hear from classmates who either live in Europe or are passing through.” He can be reached at dtaylor1@gsbalum.uchicago.edu.

Jason West and his wife, Alison, celebrated the birth of their first child, Macy Savannah West, on September 14. “A punctual child, she was born on her due date,” West writes. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces and pushed the ruler to 201/2 inches. “She is healthy and well and tons of fun,” according to the new dad, who is still with Procter & Gamble and recently moved from corporate new ventures to the Folgers business.

Anu Chawla joined Siebel Systems, a provider of front office software, where he is principal consultant in the Portland office. “My wife and I moved to Oregon in July and are enjoying the scenic beauty of Portland,” he wrote in November, when they were expecting their first baby.

Sumeet Maniar is working for Luminant Worldwide, an Internet start-up services company. “Currently I am creating a start-up in the restaurant space. I had a great summer traveling with Jeannie Loboda, Glenna Anderson, Donnell Stocker, Paula Brown, and Arun Manoharan in Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, and Alaska. I am temporarily based in Chicago.”

Dawn Priory has recently been promoted to manager, development and administration of national accounts and distribution programs at Hollister Incorporated. She lives in Chicago. Since graduation, she says, “I enjoy spending more time with my family and my two adopted greyhounds.”
