| 1994 Philippe René Denef moved from Belgium to Luxembourg, although he still heads financial risk management for Bank DeGroof. In March he married Fran¸coise Brunelle. Jeff Griswold, A.B. 91, M.B.A. 94, and his brother, Bob Griswold, M.B.A. 91, recently joined Financial Services Provider Network, a San Franciscobased Internet start-up supporting the banking industry. Jeff will be in Chicago establishing the Midwest office, while Bob will remain in San Francisco as the companys chief strategy officer. Erik Hom, director of business development at Reel.com, and his wife, Maria, announce the birth of their son, Nicholas James Hom, in September. Susan Cohen Kulp married Edoardo Kulp, A.B. 91, on May 30 in Chicago. It was a fantastic time, she writes. The GSB was very well represented at the wedding. Attendees included Amy Mitchell Krouse, Michele Glicken, Margot Kahn, Alan Lichtenberg, and Ellen Engel, 91. After a honeymoon in Greece, Edoardo and I moved to Boston, where I am an assistant professor of accounting at the Harvard Business School. Best of all, I just completed my Ph.D. from Stanford! Doug Rippe reports that he is ramping up venture investing at Tellabs in Lisle, Illinois. Were looking to increase the deal flow we see, particularly in areas such as communications equipment, communications software, Internet voice processing technologies, and optical networking technologies, he writes. Greg Yoch writes: I have been living in San Francisco for the past 31/2 years and I love it. I am a brand manager at the Clorox Company in Oakland. I am engaged to be married to Agroon Henderson in May. I recently went to a great semiformal casino night party at the home of Matt Park, a former roommate who also lives in San Francisco. Other GSBers in attendance were John Shim and Mira Kim. 1995 Keith Kulsea is now working for iWitness, a start-up Internet company in Boulder, Colorado. Kulsea is vice president of business development in charge of aligning strategic partnerships and venture capital financing. Alex Mammen and his wife, Anne, are enjoying parenthood with the birth of their son, Noah, on April 15. Mammen is a vice president with Prudential Securities in Atlanta. Heidi Elise Marcus writes: I am happy to be back in Chicago! I arrived in early September from New York City and am director of finance and operations for Goodwill Industries of southeast Wisconsin and metropolitan Chicago, creating Chicagos next taxpayer. Goodwill not only has thrift stores but also trains individuals with barriers to the workforce and provides job coaching services. Andrew P. Martin, trade marketing manager of the Clorox Company, writes: I am engaged to marry my high school sweetheart, Ana C. Domingues, in July 2000. Ana is a medical doctor at the University of Chicago Hospital. We live in Hyde Park and will exchange vows in the universitys Bond Chapel. Elliot M. Scott writes: While everyone else is out becoming an overnight billionaire with white-hot business ideas like Icanstuffmailfolders4U.com, Im doing sales and marketing consulting for lumbering corporate giants at the Stamford, Connecticut, office of the Alexander Group. Now that weve been joined by Barry Bear, 92, weve got a GSB beachhead. Michael Treptow writes: I am delighted to report that in addition to buying a new home, my wife, Beth, and I are the proud parents of a beautiful new baby boy, Ethan Treptow! He was born on June 27. The family lives in Fox Point, Wisconsin. Natalie A. Walrond reports that after graduation she joined Northwestern Investment Management Company, the wholly owned investment subsidiary of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee. There she covered Latin American public equities and emerging markets. Last spring she left the Midwest for California and switched to the sell side. I now work for Banc of America Securities in San Francisco, formerly Montgomery Securities, on the domestic research team covering business services companies. She can be reached at nwalrond@aol.com. 1996 After graduation, Collin Anderson became president and part-owner of Digital Innovations (www.digitalinnovations.com), an Evanston, Illinoisbased start-up. After a long and gut-wrenching product development phase, we finally came to market with our first product in January 1999. The product, SkipDoctor, is the first consumer CD and DVD scratch repair device. It retails for $29.99 to $34.99 and is also marketed under the names GameDoctor, dvdDoctor, and DataDoctor. Weve received great reviews in the national media including Playboy, Billboard, MacWorld, and the New York Times. SkipDoctor was awarded design distinction in the International Design magazine annual design review. We are in several thousand stores, catalogues, and Web sites and just completed our first profitable month. Excitement and cautious optimism tempered by paranoia rule the day. I use the skills and knowledge I obtained at the GSB every day, and there is no way we could have gotten off the ground without fellow alums. Frank Gerber and Dale Philippi, 91, were early investors and now serve on our board. Interestingly, Frank contacted me at a time when we were in desperate need of investment after seeing a note I wrote for the class of 96 evening program alumni newsletter put together by then-president Mark DeLisle. R. H. Bailin, 78, Andrew Brown, 97, Randy Chandra, 97, Tom Clark, 91, Jonathan Hon, 97, Andrew Nugent, 97, current student Dave Paget, Julie Zimring-Philips, 98, and Casper Zublin, XP-62 (93), all invested at critical stages of the venture. Weve also received critical guidance from Bob Wilkening, 74, and past and present GSB faculty including Bob Calvin, Jim Schrager, Paul Gompers, and John Deighton. Claudia Buttinger and Jason Fisher became engaged in Venice, Italy, in July. They plan to marry in Austria in the spring of 2000. The couple currently lives in London. Robert D. Carney recently moved to London, where he serves as a vice president in the global asset backed securitization group for Bank America Securities L.L.C. Carney structures and originates global debt structured finance products. Dean Curnutt became engaged to Frances Regan in May 1998. The wedding is set for April in Tarrytown, New York. Raj Kanwar Deol writes: Leaving Chicago was a tough decision, but we are very happy to be back home in the D.C. area. While Shuchi made a lifestyle move as a part-time pediatrician, I have shifted my pace from consulting speed to Internet speed. I am greatly enjoying my work in e-commerce business development at Capital One. Max Fainberg is in his third year at Nextel Communications in Reston, Virginia. As director of corporate strategy, he heads the companys merger and acquisition efforts. He and his wife, Lori Klein, live in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Atma Iyer reports that he and Indu have a baby girl, Asha, who was born May 21. Iyer says he is continuing his consulting career with McKinsey in Atlanta. My wife, Janet, and I moved in Julyacross the street! Why did we move? The house we bought is a little nicer, has a much better view of the lake, and is a bit bigger. The extra space may come in handy soon. Wink, wink Jon D. Kleinke writes that he and his wife, Charlene, and their son, Cooper, recently moved from Cleveland to Seattle. Kleinke accepted a new position as vice president of Key Equity Capital, a private equity investment group, and the family is moving into a home on Bainbridge Island. Steven H. Rose joined Siemens in the construction and technical services division in Erlangen, Germany. He develops strategies and programs for the North American market. This is a new challenge that I am really looking forward to, he says. Ashley K. Shih writes: I recently left the Chicago office of the Boston Consulting Group to become director of corporate development with Harbour Group Industries, a private equity group in St. Louis that is focused on leveraged buyouts of middle market industrial manufacturing companies. Sam Siegel writes: I am enjoying my position as a senior analyst in the treasury area of Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. More hours (but less stressful!) than my previous life as the deutsche mark and later Euro trader for FirstChicago/NBD in Chicago. My wife, Jennifer Perlove Siegel, A.M. 92, is taking time off from her career in health care strategic planning to spend time with Miriam, who was born December 24, 1998. We miss Chicago but find Ann Arbor, Jennifers hometown, a terrific place to live. Andrew Sprogis is treasurer of the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, the second largest not-for-profit food distributor in Chicago. |
